I love them all, but the Mixed Doubles one is my favourite!

Aw, mine too, it will always be, as it's my first wallpaper. :-)

These personas are a great idea and something else which I've never heard of before now. I particularly like the ones of the single head and then the two heads against the black background (I think you might have made those before the ones you posted today?) and I'm starting to think I should invest in some new DVDs as many of my images seem to come out looking very grainy, whereas your screencaps are excellent. (Or maybe my little laptop isn't powerful enough...?) Are your DVDs the ones which were remastered a few years ago? Anyway, thanks for posting these.

I discovered them recently, in the course of the latest Firefox update, and immediately looked for Pros in the Film and TV section, but found none. So I started on creating some myself. My first one was the green one with B/D on lookout.

As you asked, I have the uncut and digitally remastered DVDs Contender 2005. Here is a couple of original screencaps: http://pics.livejournal.com/cloudless_9193/pic/0008g53z/g188
I don't think your laptop is the reason for grainy pictures (but I'm not exactly an expert in this field). Btw, I use Aimersoft DVD Ripper to make the caps. :-)

Thanks *very* much for all that information, that's kind of you. The quality of the images on the links you provided are really, really good (and make me feel very humble....) I think I might have bought that version of the contender DVDs as well because I bought them around that time and I'm sure they were the remastered ones. Maybe I've used them too much because they're very scratched and have taken a lot of knocks e.g. frequent splashes of red wine etc. and that's partly the reason why I do black and white images because the colour is so poor, but now I'm finding even the black and white images aren't that great either! e.g. your cap of them leaning against the roof of the car is crystal clear whereas my version of that scene is quite patchy....so, overall, my choice of images is becoming quite limited. I don't know much at all about capping but apparently (I'm reliably informed by the technician in the house) that I use VLC to play and capture the images and then a free package called Microsoft Editor to manipulate them. The funny thing is though that when I play my DVDs on the TV they don't look as good as your images either (maybe I need stronger spectacles?!).

Anyway, thanks again for all your help!

(and make me feel very humble....) I'm sorry, this was not my intention, and I find your pictures great!! There is so much more to it than just the technical quality and resolution of pictures and you certainly have got it.

In the beginning I also made caps using VLC, they are okay I think. Here is one: http://pics.livejournal.com/cloudless_9193/pic/0008kq7g/g191
I wanted to check the original large version of one of the pics on your LJ but just got as far as the homepage of tinypic (although I registered I was not redirected to your pic). Is there a link you can provide? I could take a look. Maybe they only look patchy on your screen, but okay on mine.

As to playing DVDs on TV, mine are also grainier there (I've no flat TV yet) than on my Mac.

No, it's a good thing and makes me happy to see such beautiful images! I'm in awe..

Thank you for your time, here. I've attached some links for you to take a look at (please don't worry if you haven't got the time) and one of them is my version of the example you've provided and I think I'm quite happy with the quality from that particular scene, but I've included some others which I've always struggled with. Maybe 'patchy' isn't the right word to use but they're just not crisp or as clear as they might be and the colour isn't as vivid. Having said that, I think, sometimes, that the actual scene on the DVD itself might not be as clear as some others because of the way it was filmed originally e.g. the lighting used, an outdoor shot perhaps, that type of thing and I've found the same scenes looking quite similar on other journals, too. But again, having said that (!) some people seem to be able to improve on these slightly inferior shots by using packages such as photoshop and GIMP which I never use. (I've tried GIMP but it was hopeless and I just don't have the patience but I do use lunapic for very basic editing work).

Thanks, again!
