On This Day in History

This is one of the most atmospheric stories I've ever read. Just perfect from beginning to end. An enjoyable read.

On This Day in History by Slantedlight

0.10am
Fuck, they'd made it onto the bus with him, just when he thought he was well away, were pounding up the stairs even as he realised it. There was no one else up there, so Bodie put his back to the wall, and prepared to fight, weaponless for the first time in months, almost in years. Time was, before he joined this mob and ended up with a partner, he would have had a spare tucked away somewhere, but that time was long gone, and it just went to show that… Bloody
Doyle! And then they were on top of him, and there was no more time to think.
---
He felt it, suddenly heavy where he'd slid it back into his jacket pocket, touching something that had touched something, that had touched Bodie…
---
He hurt, finally
properly, he hurt.
---
Doyle's eyes met Bodie's across the rain-green garden, and time ceased to matter.

Oh, yes! This story grabbed me from the very first sentence and then held me throughout, I love it! And you've managed to choose all the quotes I love particuarly this one touching something that had touched something, that had touched Bodie and the last one of Doyle's eyes met Bodie's.....

And I love this line:

I wonder if Bodie's blood is on my knife? He felt it, suddenly heavy where he'd slid it back into his jacket pocket, touching something that had touched something, that had touched Bodie…

Trying to remember or keep track of all the great stories in Pros is a bit like spinning plates so your reminders are invaluable.

P.S. I forgot to ask you before but did you know that Lozalong was only 16 when she wrote Breakdown?

Yes,there are so many excellent stories in Pros! I really enjoy reccing the ones I haven't seen mentioned around for some time, and to know my recs are appreciated is the icing on the cake.

I didn't know, and I find it quite amazing for someone so young to have written this. A pity there isn't more than the two I've found on the Circuit.

If you're interested, she came in as lo0o0ony_lauren and commented at noblesentiments a couple of years ago when I mentioned the story. I think she's also a friend of ailcia who isn't much older!

I enjoyed this one too! I was likewise gripped from the first sentence. I loved that Bodie just turned up all cheeky when he did making Doyle want to wring his bloody neck!

That is amazing about Lozalong, that was such an insightful story you wouldn't think a 16 year old could produce something like that! It really hit a chord with me.

Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your reccies!

Thanks for reminding me that I adore this fic! It's so matter-of-fact along with all the lovely lyrical stuff. And the lads' connection throughout is just gorgeous. The opening para! And gaaaah, I have special love for them in the shower together at the end :)

and then they stood, overlapping against the shower wall, letting the heat and the steam run over them for just a minute longer.

Yes, that's it. An unforgettable image of them.

Thanks for reminding me that I adore this fic!
